EGGS
  • Hens with white feathers and ear lobes produce white shelled eggs.
  • Hens with red or brown feathers and red ear lobes produced brown shelled eggs.
  • The average hen lays 250 - 270 eggs a year.
  • Eggs are one of the few food that naturally contain Vitamin D.
  • Eggs are an important source of protein for vegetarians ...
1 egg = 1 ounce of lean meat, fish or poultry
  • To tell if an egg is raw or hard-boiled, spin it.  A hard-boiled egg will spin easily.  A raw egg will wobble.
  • To tell if an egg is 'off' or not, place it in a bowl of water.  An 'off' egg floats, a fresh egg will sink.
  • An ostrich lays the largest egg.
  • An ostrich egg is equivalent to 20-24 chicken eggs.
  • It takes an hour and a half to hard boil an ostrich egg.
  • It take half an hour to soft boil an ostrich egg.
  • A hummingbird (in Jamaica) lays the smallest egg.
  • Turtle eggs are soft and leathery.  If the egg is turned, then the embryo will almost certainly die.
  • Contrary to believe, the white of an egg is not the healthiest part - the healthiest part is actually the shell.
  • Before chicks hatch, they communicate with each other - and with their mothers - through a system of sounds.

According to research published in 2008, male Dinosaurs were sometimes responsible for sitting on eggs until they hatched.
