- Create a nest out of wood or mud.
- Like to pick sunny places, in holes underground along riverbanks, or attached to sides of walls and trees, to build their nests.
- Have black and yellow markings over the body.
- Are found in every country in the world.
- Males don't have a 'stinger', therefore, they can sting multiple times without injuring themselves.
- Are inactive when the temperature drops at night, so they will return to their nest.
- Females protect the nest.
- Are actually quite gentle and will only sting if they feel threatened.
- Can recognise each other's faces.
- A velvet ant is a type of wasp.
- The Tarantula Hawk is a giant wasp with the second most painful insect sting in the world.
