​RATS
There are 56 species of rats.​
  • Wild rats eat worms, insects, seeds, grains, nuts, berries, fruit, fish and eggs.
  • Are very clean and spend several hours a day grooming.
  • Have poor eyesight and don't see in colour.
  • Have an excellent sense of taste.
  • Have an excellent memory.
  • Have very strong teeth.
  • Can chew through wire, aluminium, lead and glass.
  • Can swim.
  • Can tread water for 3 days.
  • Like to be in groups.
  • Have belly buttons.
  • Are very ticklish.
  • Don't have gallbladders or tonsils.
  • Live up to 18 months, but many don't live one year.
  • Are eaten in my rural areas in Asia.
  • Actually laugh when tickled.
  • Can last longer without water than a camel - as can a Giraffe.
  • Prefer the taste of boiled sweets to that of cheese.
  • Giggle when you tickle them.  This has been proved by using special equipment to listen to them.
  • If you tickle them every day, they will giggle immediately they see you.
  • Mole Rats have keen, limited eye-sight.  To them, light might mean a predator having broken into their tunnel.
  • Mole Rats are immune to cancer.
  • Mole Rats can live up to 28 years.
  • Urinate on food to mark it as edible.
  • Newborn rats can survive underwater for 40 minutes.
  • The African giant pouched rat can smell Tuberculosis (TB) 50 times faster than a laboratory scientist can identify it.
  • Rats get more depressed in the summer than in the winter.
  • Four million years ago, rats in South America were the size of hippos.
  • Rats dream about places they want to explore.​
  • Rats breed so quickly that in just 18 months, 2 rats could have created over 1 million relatives.
