MICE
- Can squeeze through really small gaps.
- Are nocturnal.
- Whiskers sense surfaces and temperature changes.
- Tails are almost as long as their bodies.
- Build their nests near sources of food.
- Eat 50 - 20 times a day.
- Eat seeds, small fruit and berries, beetles, caterpillars, grasshoppers and insects.
- Don't actually like cheese at all, unless extremely hungry - but they do really like peanut butter and really sweet chocolate.
- Live only about 6 months in the wild, but 2 years in a laboratory.
- Main predators are man, cats, snakes and foxes.
- Are good swimmers, jumpers and climbers.
- Have good eyesight in dim light.
- Cannot see in colour.
- Have sharp hearing and can hear in the ultrasonic range.
- Have a good sense of smellHeart beats 10.8 beats per second.
- Prefer to move around adjacent to walls and edges.
- Produce litters of 4-16 young per year.
- New borns are blind and have no fur.
- Mice can cough.
- There are thought to be over 200 mice in the Houses of Parliament each year, but authorities won't get a cat because no-one can be trusted to look after it responsibly.
- Dormice are not mice.
