​LEMURS
There are 32 different kinds of lemurs.
  • Are the smallest primate.
  • Are the most endangered primates.
  • Are nocturnal.
  • Live in Madagascar.
  • Their tails help them to balance.
  • Live in groups of 7 - 15 individuals.
  • Females are dominant over males.
  • Most stay up in the trees and bushes.
  • Eat leaves fruit, nuts, insects and small animals.
  • Stand upright and hop sideways with their arms held to the side, waving up and down, if they need to move from tree to tree and the distance is more than 300 feet.
  • Females carry their babies in their mouth until the baby is able to cling to the fur on the mother's stomach or back.
  • Male ring-tailed Lemurs will 'stink fight' by wafting scent at each other.
  • If a baby ring-tailed lemur is orphaned, the rest of the troop will take care of it.
  • The only primate, besides humans, that can have blue eyes.
