TIGERS
  • Are the largest big cat species.
  • Are at the top of the food chain.
  • Are strong swimmers.
  • Are completely blind at birth.
  • About half do not survive to adulthood.
  • Mainly eat large mammals - antelope, buffalo, deer and pigs.
  • May also eat frogs, monkeys, porcupines and fowl.
  • Hunt primarily by sight and sound, rather than by smell.
  • They hunt alone. 
  • Can live for about 10 years or up to 25 if in captivity.
  • May cover the remains of its food with grass or debris and return to it over the following few days.
  • You can hear a tiger's roar over a mile way.
  • Are the biggest cats in the world.
  • Young tigers will live with their until they are two years old.
  • A paw prints are called pug marks.
  • Have stripes on their fur, and also on their skin.
  • No two tigers have the same stripe pattern.
  • A tiger's tongue is so rough that if it licks your hand, it would draw blood.
  • Have legs that are so powerful, they can remain standing even when dead.
  • Cannot purr.  To show happiness, they squint or close their eyes.
  • Have antiseptic saliva, so they lick their wounds to disinfect them.
  • 97% of the world's tigers have been lost over the past century.
