Rainfall will drive the zebras to migrate to greener pastures. The migration, unfortunately, makes them very susceptible to predators - lions, tigers and leopards ... and from crocodiles whilst crossing rivers.
Is white with black stripes.
Every zebra has a unique pattern of black and white stripes - like a human fingertip. No two zebras have the same pattern of stripes.
The stripes act as camouflage and when congregated together, and act to confuse the predators by affecting its judgement of the the size of the zebra.
A foal can recognise its mother by her stripes.
Stand up while sleeping.
Run from side to side when being chased by a predator.
Have never been fully domesticated.
A cross between a Zebra and a Pony is called a 'zony'.
Zebra crossings on our roads, are named after the Zebra because of their black and white stripes.
There are three species of Zebra:
Plains Zebra (Burchell's Zebra) - the most common of the zebras.
Mountain Zebra - has a flap of skin on his throat, known as a dewlap and the stripes widen towards the rear.
Grevy's Zebra - has closer stripes and a black line running the .length of its spine.
